I am my sisters keeper...What does that mean exactly? I'm not looking at it in general, I mean personally. What does that statement mean to you? Is it just another meaningless statement that sounds good, or is it your call to action? How are you keeping your fellow sisters (or fellow man)? Do we even know how to be our sisters keeper? What are some REAL examples of keepers?
These are all legitimate questions. Being our sisters keeper is only a powerful statement when we put action behind it. Not just during special occasions...all the time!! Doing that requires being SELFLESS in a SELFISH world. It can be more difficult to execute than you think. It requires thought, planning, and purposeful action. It also requires being willing to do it often at the most inconvenient of times.
In a country that's known for abundance, it's a shame to know that there is lack in many places. I feel that lack comes from greed. You can have it all, so to speak, and still feel as if you don't have enough. Whereas, someone may not have anything and all they desire is to have the basic needs of life. However, the one that has it all claims to be her sister's keeper only on the holidays or when she is sure to get acknowledgement from her peers for the caring of the less fortunate. Please tell me how is this being a keeper?
A keeper doesn't have to have a lot, however, they are willing to give out of what they have. A keeper doesn't need nor desire the accolades of her peers to show compassion for those going without. A keeper will recognize when her sister is hurting and if nothing else offer to pray with and for her. A keeper doesn't need to boast nor brag about all she's done because she knows her rewards will be given by the Most High! That's a keeper... a REAL KEEPER!
So before we start throwing around being our sisters keeper, let's first examine ourselves. It doesn't require a big bank account, just a big heart. No need for public recognition, because God sees it all! Let me encourage you to embrace the status of being a keeper. It has never hurt anyone when done correctly. Not only will you be keeping your sister, you'll be keeping God's commandments to love one another. As I've experienced myself, you never know when you may be entertaining angels.
Again I ask, I am my sisters keeper...What does that mean to you??
Be Blessed! Smooches! L
